While checking out with the bulk of my planned Duffy-related purchases, she asked me something in Japanese (I assume asking if I needed any extra bags). I had tried very hard to use as much of my limited Japanese as possible the whole day and I hadn't realized how tiring it was. I gave up and replied to her, "I don't know." So she launched into very understandable English and even helped me pick out the right size giant shopping bag to add to my purchases. (Which was PERFECT to use as a carry-on bag, by the way.)
